STRIKE! While they are still unable to see us

As the information presented on the internet increases, we rely more and more on search engines to organize it all for us. Search engines like Google are exceptionally adept at seeking out information, upacking it (comprehending it even), and feeding it to us based upon what the search engine judges best meets our seach queries.

However, the search engines we rely so much upon have a major weakness: they are essentially unable to comprehend the information presented in digital image format. Files like .jpg, .gif, and .png make up a significant portion of the cyber world and yet they are incomprehensible to search engines.

"Strike! While they are still unable to see us" is a series of work that explores this interesting gap in in the search world. To facilitate these pieces I've created an "invisible text" alphabet made of digital images and html tables.

"A Love Letter to Google" highlights Google's inability to read my invisible text that insults the company. Google's search engine will suppose that this webpage is, in fact, a love letter praising the company because it can only read the normal text the page provides. Another aspect of this piece is that it takes away the machine's ability to give the user information in the most efficient way possible. It does this by requiring the user to scroll right to left to read the entirety of the invisible text. This gives more control to the human user.

The art piece "Strike! While they are still unable to see us" goes further by defacing a working Google search page. The recognizable Google home page facade is tagged with graffiti inciting rebellion against the blind search engines.

Don't Tread on Me, Revolucion

If you are interested in creating your own pages using invisible text, I've provided the html markup here. Please feel free to use it! And I'd love to see your piece when it is completed.
