Art In and Of the Internet
Your browser window is a gallery showroom. This website is a drawing... a dynamic, interactive sketch. Each mouse click you execute and keystroke you log reverberates through the internet and is recorded as a piece of performance art.
I want to create art that is bigger than any canvas and capable of being copied, shared, and altered by a billion people. The digital age is the new renaissance and artistic invention is on the precipice once again. Internet Artists will congregate in a new Florence, a new New York, and will reach an audience larger and more diverse than anyone can imagine. Art criticism and theory is alive and well in the blogsphere, social networks are chock-full of gallery space, and Google has already begun curating the exhibition. The artists are also here: uploading videos to YouTube, posting on Flickr, creating and contributing to memes, and building shrines to their personal interests. They only need to recognize that they are, in fact, artists... when that happens, the floodgates will open.
My artwork deals with ideas like Internet Scale, Open Source Art, and Software Art while simultaneously attempting to answer questions like "what should a digital drawing/painting look like?" and "how does new media art situate itself alongside more traditional art practices?" (there often seems to be a monumental divide between them)
There are some wonderful thoughts on this website (some mine, some from others) and there are some wonderful creations on this site (all mine). Look closely enough and these thoughts and creations should paint the idea of the internet in a different light for you. Look even closer and you will experience the internet in a new way. Look too closely and you might lose yourself in the internet. After all, the internet is a new world and it is becoming more and more difficult to live in both the physical and the cyber worlds.
